Project Description:
The Baseline Road Transportation Safety Project will improve multimodal travel safety along Baseline Road from 30th Street to Foothills Parkway.
This section of Baseline Road is one of the most-traveled corridors in the city and is home to many key community destinations and services, including: apartments, grocery stores, affordable housing, health centers, shops and student housing for the University of Colorado Boulder. However, it is also a location with a high number of serious-injury crashes compared to other streets in the city.
Phase 1 of the project focuses on enhancing safety and accessibility for all roadway users through the following improvements:
- Repaving and Restriping
- Roadway repaving to ensure smoother travel.
- Restriping for narrower travel lanes.
- Addition of new or widened bike lane buffers.
- Removal of the eastbound right-turn lane from Mohawk Drive to the Meadows shopping center.
- Bike Lane Enhancements
- Separation of bike lanes from vehicle lanes with flexible posts.
- Green bike lane markings for increased visibility.
- Pedestrian Safety Features
- New crosswalks and corner islands to improve crossing safety.
- Painted curb extensions at select intersections to reduce pedestrian and bicycle crossing distances.
Phase 1 will conclude with the installation of concrete barriers to replace flexible posts at key locations along the corridor. These changes aim to create a safer, more efficient, and multimodal transportation corridor.
